Staying Motivated

It doesn’t matter if you are just starting to lift weights or you have years of training under your belt, staying motivated is something that everybody has to deal with. Most of the time, people start out their path to build muscle full of enthusiasm and excited for what is in store; but when they don’t see the results that they were hoping for or as fast as they were expecting them, they quickly lose their drive, which more often than not makes them quit lifting all together. Staying motivated does not need to be difficult, and in this article we will cover just a couple of the tips that lifters everywhere use to keep their motivation levels high.

It shouldn’t come as a surprise to you if we said that people who work out alone lose their motivation faster than those that have a lifting partner. When you are lifting by yourself, you only have yourself to tell you to push harder, and it’s only you that is telling you to get that last rep out. As a result, many people use the excuse of being alone to do only a mediocre workout, which of course could be the reason why they aren’t seeing spectacular gains. Find a lifting buddy, and you will almost instantly notice that your workouts become more intense, making it one of the easiest ways to stay motivated. Keep in mind however, your lifting partner has to be as serious about lifting as you are, otherwise your workouts will suffer. Don’t have a friend who lifts? Not a problem, just ask someone at your gym who is around your strength, chances are they will be more than happy lift with someone.

Another advantage that having a lifting partner brings is that you can discuss various things regarding weightlifting; which exercises work best for what, and which supplements are effective or ineffective. The problem is, not everybody has a friend that they can talk to about all things weightlifting. Besides the gym, there are also other places where you can find likeminded individuals. Such places are online forums dedicated to bodybuilding where you can discuss whatever it is that is on your mind. Websites like bodybuilding.com, have huge communities with lots of sub-sections where you are sure to find someone who may be going through the same things you are. Just by partaking in discussion about bodybuilding, will help you stay motivated and pursue your goals. You might even find someone on the forums who you could occasionally lift with, or a partner to help you make it through those intense cardio sessions.

The last way to stay motivated is to simply have fun! Bodybuilding doesn’t have to be a monotonous and tedious task. If you mix things up just a little every now and then, it can be a whole lot of fun. Take cardio for example, most people will just hop on the treadmill after their workout for a couple of minutes before heading back home. While that may certainly get the job done, it doesn’t exactly put a smile on your face. Next time, try mixing it up by going swimming, or even hiking, believe it or not, both of those are very effective forms of cardio for bodybuilders that will help you get shredded. Staying motivated is all about avoiding the pitfalls of monotony.
